Eurovision Song Contest 2005
John Themis and Javine

Eurovision Song Contest 2005

From Kiev on Saturday 21 May

Writer John Themis

John Themis is a man for all seasons and seemingly for every musical occasion!

A passionate and creative man he is utterly committed to his art. When asked what his favourite type of music is he replies: "There are only two types; good and bad. Good music comes from the Gods, the rest can go to hell!"

John's CV is outstanding and the following barely scratches the surface...

He's on everybody's album from Dido to Rod Stewart and Gabrielle to George Michael and has written smash hits for Emma Bunton (a UK number one), Sugababes and Kylie Minogue.

The Spice Girls, Will Young, Stevie Wonder, Geri Halliwell, Lemar, Girls Aloud, Jamelia, Natalie Imbruglia, Sir Elton John, Cher, Dolly Parton, Blondie, Pet Shop Boys and Eurovision favourites Ofra Haza and Lulu have all worked with Mr Themis in the past.

John's closest working relationship is probably with Boy George and Culture Club and for many years he acted as Musical Director for their live tours and albums as well as writing more than 100 songs with George and the band.

This collaboration peaked in the last two years when John co-wrote the smash hit musical Taboo - a show that followed the peaks and troughs of Eighties fashion and fame, roughly based on Boy George's life.

It was Eighties nostalgia at its best and after running for a year in London it was no surprise when it transferred to New York's Broadway.

Born in Australia, of Greek Cypriot parents, John has spent most of his life in London and perhaps it is this unique ethnic mix that's created the driven man whose music is studied at Royal Academy Of Music, who plunged headlong in to the vibrant pop market (picking up a Grammy nomination along the way) and now in 2005 has co-written the hottest song the UK's had at Eurovision for a decade!
