Following the announcement that the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters intends to create five new fellowships to mark the five decades of the Ivor Novello Awards, it is with great pleasure that the British Academy will now be presenting the first of these to Sir Elton John.

Sir Elton's career and commitment to music and songwriting are beyond comparison and the academy is proud that he is able to join other fellows 聳 Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Malcolm Arnold and John Barry 聳 as beacons of excellence in the world of composing and songwriting.

On hearing of the accolade Sir Elton said: "I am honoured and humbled by this recognition.

"The Ivor Novello Awards are all about the art of songwriting which has always been my passion."
