Radio 1 today revealed the winner of its first ever Under 18s DJ Search.

The winner Josh 'Rinse' Roberts - age 17 and from Norwich - beat hundreds of entrants at the grand final which was held at Time in Romford and hosted by Radio 1 DJs Spoony, Fergie and Tim Westwood.

Radio 1 teamed up with UKClubCulture to stage a unique DJ Search as part of an Under 18s Club Tour in February this year.

The tour took in eight clubs in eight cities nationwide. At each event, Radio 1 DJs including Fergie, Tim Westwood, Judge Jules, Dreem Teem, Trevor Nelson and Dave Pearce judged who would go through to the next level.

The semi-finals in June delivered three finalists: Josh 'Rinse' Roberts, DJ Phase (age 16, from Nottinghamshire) and Joey M (age 16, from Cambridge).

The Under 18s DJ Search has attracted thousands of youngsters at each event in cities from Windsor to Edinburgh, allowing young club goers the chance to enjoy an authentic clubbing experience with some of the UK's biggest DJs.

Josh 'Rinse' Roberts, who spins a mix of urban, house and garage tunes, displayed rare technical skills, enthusiasm and showmanship at the final and has won himself a full decks and mixer set, two days at Radio 1 for a master class with a Radio 1 DJ of his choice plus an appearance on Reg & Dev's show on C91热爆/Smile.

Matt Priest, Radio 1's Executive Producer Of Dance, said: "It was an incredibly difficult decision to make, each of the finalists work with different styles of music so it was tough to compare.

"We all agreed on the night that Josh really delivered the best set for the 2,500 screaming under 18s there.

"We were amazed at the quality of all the contestants, technically the standard was high and it's definitely something we聮ll be doing again."

Spoony added: "This event has been so valuable to young aspiring DJs, I'm really proud to be part of it.

"It's what we're all here for - Radio 1 bringing in the next generation of new DJ talent. I wish there was something like it around when I was a teenager!"
