On 24 April
at the Northern Whig in Belfast, super funk group Players
make their Belfast debut as part of 91Èȱ¬ Music Live.
Ìý
They are performing as special guests in an exclusive
live recording of 91Èȱ¬ 6 Music's Craig Charles Funk Show from
7.00 to 10.00pm and tickets are free to the public.
Ìý
Players present a hip new brand of rhythmic funk taking the
audience on an upbeat journey into dynamics, groove and improvisation.
Ìý
The group is comprised of four musicians at the top
of their game: Aziz Ibrahim on guitar (The Stone Roses, Ian Brown),
Damon Minchella on bass (Ocean Colour Scene), Mick Talbot
on keyboards (Style Council) and Steve White on drums and percussion
(Paul Weller).
Ìý
The chart and live success of the four musicians is
staggering, with millions of record sales with both UK and international
hits.
Ìý
The collective talent and respect the four have earned
has now synergized to create Players and their first album, Clear the
Decks.
Ìý
Guitarist Aziz Ibrahim was the man who took over from
John Squire in The Stone Roses, instantly known for his highly individual
guitar style, he has followed his work with the Roses with the recent
works of Ian Brown.
Ìý
Bassist Damon Minchella was a founding member of Ocean
Colour Scene and continues to be a key part of Paul Weller's touring
live band.
Ìý
Mick Talbot was one half of the highly lauded and multi
platinum selling Style Council, one of Britain's most innovative bands.
Ìý
Mick has played with Jools Holland, Galliano and performed
as the funky backbone of the Young Disciples.
Ìý
Steve White has played drums on an incredible 39 hit
records throughout the career of one of the UK's most respected and
influential musicians, Paul Weller.
Ìý
Steve has also played with Oasis and a stellar line
up of musicians over the years, including Paul McCartney, Dr John and
Jimmy Page.
In addition to the live performance, Craig Charles will be playing the
usual variety of funky cuts and live music from other special guests
including international DJs Loose Cannon and singer Carleen
Anderson.

rock and pop, and has a major presence at Music Live 2004:

As part of Music Live, 6 Music will also be available
on 89.5 FM in Belfast and surrounding areas from 12 April to 4 May.

The 91Èȱ¬ Music Live festival runs throughout Northern
Ireland from 23 April to 3 May and brings more than 50 concerts across
all genres of music, most of them free to the public.

Street parties and educational initiatives plus opportunities
for new bands combine with top international artists and the best of
Irish talent to make Northern Ireland the music capital of the world
for the 11 days of the festival.
