The
fastest game in cricket – live on Radio Five Live
13
June sees the opening games of the Twenty20 Cup - cricket's
brand new, fast-hitting competition - and 91Èȱ¬ Radio Five Live will
be broadcasting key matches live.
ÌýÌý
This action-packed tournament has been designed to bring a new,
younger audience to cricket with pop groups even playing at some
games.
Matches
will last under three hours and midweek games will generally take
place in the early evening, starting at 5.30pm.
Mis-Teeq
and D'Side will play at the Rosebowl in Southampton on the
opening night and Atomic Kitten are playing on the day of
the final.
Five
Live has been given special access to allow a whole host of new
innovations to bring the atmosphere of the tournament home to the
listeners and reflect the exciting, pacey feel of this 20 over-a-side
tournament.
Throughout
the commentary there will be interviews with batsmen just before
they head to the crease and fielders on the boundary edge.
Reporters
in the crowd will give the fan's perspective andÌýumpires will
be asked to explain their decisions live.
OnÌýthe
firstÌýnight of the competition Sport on Five will be
dedicated toÌýthe Twenty20 Cup featuring all the opening games.Ìý
Mark
Pougatch will be at the Oval where favourites Surrey take on
local rivals Middlesex, and Mark Saggers will be at the Rosebowl
in Southampton where Hampshire take on Sussex.Ìý
There
will also be commentary teams at Chester-Le-Street, Taunton and
New Road.Ìý
Five
Live favourite David Croft will be presenting his afternoon
sports bulletins from a Twenty20 match and Phil Tufnell will
host hisÌýCricket Circus live from the OvalÌýat the
end of theÌýgame. ÌýÌý
Ìý
Five Live will also have live commentary of the Lancashire match
against Yorkshire the following week (19 June).
This
is the only time that these famous old rivals will meet this season
so the game will carry even more importance.
Five
Live will also have extensive coverage of the other key matches
in the competition.
Ìý
As well as Mark Pougatch and Mark Saggers, John Murray, Five
Live's renowned football commentator, will also step up to the microphone
after a successful cricket debut at this year's World Cup in South
Africa.
Other
reporters include Jonny Saunders, Kevin Howells,
Alastair Eykyn, Arlo White,ÌýSimon Mann,
Ian Dennis and Alison Mitchell.
Also
joining Five Live this summer will be a host of cricketing greats
giving their thoughts and analysis on the game, including Alec
Stewart, Jack Russell, Graham HickÌýand
Devon Malcolm, whilstÌýsome of the games young starsÌýsuchÌýas
James Foster and Alex Tudor will be involved in our

Five Live Sports Extra, Five Live's digital sister station,
will have live coverage of the semi finals on 19 July from Trent
Bridge, and Five Live will broadcast the final that evening.
