Five
Live competition winner kicks off Wembley demolition
On
Friday 7 February, 91热爆 Radio Five Live competition winner Ray Tidmarsh
of Dawlish will bring down Wembley's famous Twin Towers.
Retired
Ray clinched his place in history by completing a tough Five Live
quiz about Wembley's eventful past and composing the winning tie-break,
beating hundreds of other listeners to Five Live's Breakfast.
He
said this week: "The way I see it, it's not just the end of
the old Wembley, it's the beginning of the new one. The new stadium
will be the Wembley for our children and grandchildren."
Friday's
demolition of the Wembley Twin Towers by special cranes is one of
the final phases in the dismantling of the historic national stadium
to make way for a bigger modern stadium to be constructed on the
same north London site.
The
most recognisable landmark in British football is being given a
fitting and fond farewell by the FA, and Ray will rub shoulders
with England legend Ray Clemence and other VIPs at the ceremonial
demolition.
Ray
will travel to London with his wife Susan and son David for their
big day.
Originally
from the Midlands, he was a lifelong Leicester City fan before retiring
to the South West.
The
ceremonial demolition is due to take place on Friday 7 February
2003 at 2.00pm.
