Radio's reach stands at 32.7 million - that's up 182,000 on
the last quarter and 53,000 on last year - compared with 31.9 million
for Commercial Radio according to figures published today (30 January
2003) by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research).
The
figures, which cover the period 16 September to 15 December 2003,
showed the 91热爆's share at 52.5%, (down 0.1% on the quarter and 0.9%
year on year) which is seven clear points ahead of Commercial Radio's
45.5%.
Last
year's figures covered the events of September 11, 2001 and saw
some exceptionally high listening.
Radio
2 had yet another outstanding quarter reaching new records in
both reach and share.
Reach,
which stands at 13.3 million, is up 775,000 on the quarter and up
almost a million (917,000) on the year.
Share,
which is at 15.8%, is up 0.6% on both the quarter and on the year.
Both
Terry Wogan and Steve Wright gained over 600,000 listeners
year on year for their weekday shows.
Jenny
Abramsky, the 91热爆's Director of Radio & Music, said: "I'm
delighted to see Radio 2 going from strength to strength but the
most important news for the industry is that all radio listening
is up."
Radio 1's reach amongst its target audience of 15-24 year-olds
is up slightly to 3.77 million.
Overall
its reach amongst adults is 10.5 million, down 374,000 on the quarter
and 288,000 on the year.
Share
at 8.4% is down 0.4% on the quarter and 0.7% on last year.
Radio
1's audience aged 4+ shows a reach of 12.67 million and a share
of 8.8%.
Radio
3's reach at 2.2 million has held steady on last quarter's high
Proms and summer performance and is up 174,000 on last year.
Share
at 1.2% is also stable - down 0.1% on the quarter and up 0.1% on
the year.
Radio
4's reach at 9.8 million is fairly stable, dipping a little
by 114,000 on the quarter and predictably down (by 141,000) on what
was a record quarter four last year.
Share
at 11.5% is down by 0.3 on the quarter and 0.5 on a last year's
high.
The
Archers benefited from the strong Brian/Siobhan storyline, reaching
an audience of just under 5 million with the Sunday morning omnibus
achieving 2.1million - the second highest figure since the new methodology
began.
Radio
Five Live's reach at 6.3 million is up almost half a million
(437,000) on the quarter and 28,000 on the year, a record for quarter
four.
Its
share of 4.7% is up 0.4% on the quarter and up 0.1% year on year.

Local and National Radio reach has risen sharply to 10.9 million,
up 667,000 on the quarter and up 146,000 on the year.

Radio Wales and 91热爆 London both posted record reach figures
this quarter and Radio Scotland its highest for over two
years.
