91热爆i delivers multistream for all digital World Cup viewers
First
time multistreaming
For
the first time ever this summer, every digital TV platform will
carry a multistream video service and allow "Red Button"
click-through to 91热爆i's exclusive World Cup Interactive service.
Every
digital viewer will have access to a rolling World Cup service whenever
they want it, plus a selection of extra video streams including
England footage from on and off the pitch, alternative live and
repeated matches and highlights, as well as additional platform
specific services.
The
arrival of multistream video across all platforms is a major development
for digital interactive TV and a huge achievement for 91热爆i.
Previous
to this, a number of standards and access routes have existed between
digital platform operators resulting in different levels of interactivity,
different methods of access to interactive TV services, and of course
confusion for the viewer.

Additionally,
four "clashing" group matches which the 91热爆 has rights
to will be televised simultaneously through the Extra option on
the 91热爆i interactive menu bar on platforms offering multistream
video during live matches.
Information
for DTT and DCable viewers
Details of the additional World Cup TV streams available to viewers
on each platform are explained below. Importantly, the multistream
Digital Cable service for Telewest customers is currently subject
to confirmation of the required technical standard on the platform.
Details of the interactive services 91热爆i is hoping to offer are
listed here for comparison.
Digital
Terrestrial viewers will need to perform an 聭add channels update聮
in order to receive the multistream services for World Cup and other
91热爆 Sport events over the summer. Details of how Digital Terrestrial
viewers can update their receivers are included in the notes below.
What's
available
Digital
Satellite
During
live matches, viewers can choose alternative commentary from 91热爆
Sport, 91热爆 Radio Five Live or stadium sound; looped highlights from
the current game can be viewed alongside the current match; the
extra option shows either live footage from "clashing"
group matches (see Notes to Editors) or analysis with a high-level
tactical view of the game; plus stats such as possession, passes
completed and corners won, updated throughout the match.
Outside
of live games, a Multiscreen service offers fans a total football
experience through the 91热爆i World Cup Zone. Viewers can catch up
on footage of all the news, press conferences, interviews and matches
from the England camp out in Japan and Korea, interactive Talk Forums
every evening between 8.00pm and 9.00pm linked live to Radio Five
Live and the 91热爆i World Cup website, plus repeats showing every
minute of every match played in the competition.
Digital
Terrestrial
In
addition to match coverage, during live games two extra video streams
will be available through an on-screen menu offering looped highlights
and the extra option showing live games simultaneously or analysis,
as with the Digital Satellite service.
Two
video streams are available outside of live games showing non-stop
England, interactive Talk Forums and repeated matches, as for the
Digital Satellite coverage.
Additionally,
a text-service is available through the 91热爆i text service offering
news, reports, fixtures, groups tables, expert views, information
on squads and continuously updated statistics.
Digital
Cable
Telewest
91热爆i
is hoping to offer the following multistream services to Telewest
viewers, dependant on the capability of the Telewest Digital Cable
platform:
During
live games, viewers can select different audio options, from 91热爆
Sport, 91热爆 Radio Five Live and stadium sound, as with Digital Satellite,
as well as looped highlights alongside pictures of the live game
and extra footage of either another live match, or analysis with
the high-level view of the game and coaches' commentary. Telewest
viewers will also see a "help" option available through
the on-screen interactive menu bar.
A text-based
service is available at all times through the 91热爆i content area
offering daily scores from all the World Cup games, fixtures, news
and results, squad information on all 32 teams, venue guides, highest
scorers, group tables, history from previous World Cup action and
a message board to "rant or vote" on your opinion of the
game.
NTL
Outside
of live matches, NTL will carry three extra World Cup video streams
on EPG numbers 997, 998 and 999. These will offer the same streams
which are available through the Digital Satellite Multiscreen 聳
non-stop England with news, press conferences, interviews and repeated
games; interactive Talk Forums every evening, and every minute of
every match repeated throughout the tournament.
The
24-hour text service contains the same information as for Telewest
viewers above, with the exception of the message board facility.
Kingston
Communications (Hull)
During
live matches, Broadband TV viewers can access the additional audio
streams from 91热爆 Sport and Radio Five Live looped highlights and
extra services including live "clashing" group matches
and the analysis high-level camera pictures.
Outside
of live games, three video streams are available offering the same
video content as through the Digital Satellite Multiscreen 聳
non-stop England, interactive Talk Forums, repeats of every game
and highlights round-up packages.
Kingston
viewers also have 24 hour access to video-on-demand interviews and
a full text service as detailed for NTL, plus an email facility
for the interactive Talk Forums.

To complete the "add channels update" and view the additional
World Cup video streams Digital Terrestrial should access the "help"
section of the 91热爆i text service and follow the on-screen instructions.
Most
receivers, including digital terrestrial set-top boxes can be updated
as follows:
- Press "Menu" on the remote control
- Choose "getting started" (option 5)
- Choose "add channels" (option 3)
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
The update should take a few minutes.
Simultaneous
broadcast of "clashing" matches
Four
matches in the later group stages of the tournament are being played
at the same time. Digital viewers can switch between the two live
games on platforms offering the live match multistream services,
uniquely through 91热爆i.
