World Cup correspondents: Ireland
Anthony Stanley

Anthony Stanley is flying out to Japan to support the Republic of Ireland.

Ireland famously reached the quarter finals back in 1990. They'll be hoping to do the same with a talented side.

Nottingham Forest fan Anthony Stanley, takes a look at Ireland's chances. Also, see what Nottingham student, Chris Reinhert thinks to the Irish team.

Anthony Stanley - Ireland
How is your country preparing for the World Cup?
Ireland have been preparing very well with a recent series of friendly games being held in Landsdowne Road. All have been complete sell-outs with a capacity crowd of over 40,000 fans cheering us on, our ONLY loss at home in two years was inflicted upon us by the Nigerian side who played us in our last match prior to departure for Japan. With the Ireland squad already selected the Irish team were finally beaten on home soil by a Nigerian side who were yet to name their squad... Obviously with our recent injury scare of Roy Keane our lads were "not quite fully committed" to every tackle and despite numerous attempts of equalising Ireland went down 2-1. The Nigerian goalkeeper was most certainly the "Man of the Match" in this game.
How do you think Ireland will do in the World Cup?
With our first match being against Cameroon (recent African Nations Cup winners) we are not in as easy a group as some would believe. I think that Germany will go on to the Final so we have to beat Cameroon in order to qualify for the next round in my opinion... This, I think we will do after having the recent test against similar opposition.
Who's your best player and why?
Roy Keane... Without a doubt. Nottingham Forest (My club team) formed this player into the World Class player that he is today and with his history of earlier World Cups behind him, he feels that this may be his last and so will be pushing the team to play even harder than he pushes Man United... This can only be good for Ireland.
What do you think to the England side?
With a fit Beckham they are a team to contend with and I would love to be able to get match tickets for their first round games.... As yet I have only Irish tickets.
Where will you be watching the matches?
In Japan !!!!!!!!!!! With all 3 tickets firmly in my hand it is going to be a wonderful experience.
