About the author

I came to York to study for a degree in English literature, and decided that, rather than return to Lincolnshire, I would stay. After a spell in Glasgow, the call of the North was too strong, and I returned to York. Having decided that I wasn’t cut out to be a rock star, I focussed my creative skills into writing while studying for my degree in English Literature, and have since devoted much time and energy to forging narratives born out of a dissatisfaction with contemporary mainstream culture.

In the last year, I have had a number of short stories published, including ‘Birthday’ and ‘Some Kind of Stranger’ in Geeek magazine, and ‘Heading South’ in issue four of Neonbeam. My self-published collection of short stories, Bad Houses, has been selling steadily via Amazon.co.uk, and A Call for Submission, a short story published in the form of a pamphlet, available for the 29 days of February only achieved not only a degree of success, but also served to raise my profile. This is also true of my MySpace presence: my blog, which I use not only as a showcase for my fiction, but also as a forum for obscure album and gig reviews and as a platform for general spouting, has been growing in popularity in recent months, earning me a loyal readership.

My observationally-based mode of writing typically draws heavily on song lyrics and elements of literary criticism to create genre-defying hybrid forms. The creative process is usually rather haphazard, and what begins as an idea to create one type of piece invariably ends up as something completely different. In a spate of extremely prolific experimentalism, I completed the cut-up anti-novel THE PLAGIARIST in three months. Dispensing with plot, character and all semblance of order or narrative in the conventional sense, THE PLAGIARIST is the ultimate work of postmodern fiction. This was published by Clinicality Press (York) at the beginning of may, 2008.

I am currently working on a number of projects, and have completed two more conventional novels, for which I am in the process of finding a publisher.
