Raintime by Julie-Anne Graham

In late July the sky hymns descend,
brushing hazel branches
with trinkets of molten summer.

Moths grace the evergreens,
winnowing slow amongst branches,
stealing tides from the surfaces of leaves.

Pink waterspiders, gossamer
lidded with forest weave, drip
from branches into sleepy streams.

The minnow light descends,
Past pinwheeling seed pods,
filling reed beds with harmonica tones.

Peppered amongst seasoning
timber, lazy mice catch summer
tangles in their eyelashes
and comb the rainfall with tiny sneezes.
