Untold London
The Roots project, with the support of 91热爆 New Talent and 91热爆 London, launched the 'Untold London' scheme in May 2005. We asked you to pitch an idea for a two minute film exploring Londoners' lives and stories that we hadn't heard before.
听
There were over 200 applications, but ten ideas were chosen and the winners were given support and training to make their films.

The films were shown on 91热爆 London during 2005. You can watch them here.

Two of the finalists, Benjamin Till and Kareim El Jamal, tell us what the experience was like for them.

Hampstead Heath the Musical by Benjamin Till
After being shortlisted in the Untold London project Hampstead Heath: The Musical was nominated for a Royal Television Society award and was subsequently chosen for screening at a film festival.
Since then Benjamin has been commissioned to create Children In Need: The Musical, which has given him the chance to combine all his creative skills.
The viewer response was extremely humbling. A huge number of people called in to say how much they鈥檇 enjoyed the film and I was emailed by complete strangers who wanted me to know how much the piece had cheered them up at a very dark time for most Londoners... There are so many possibilities now for the future.

Waste Not, Want Not by Kareim El Jamal
After being shortlisted for Untold London Kareim was commissioned to make an eight minute film with Inside Out at 91热爆 London.
Kareim is continuing to research stories to make into short news documentaries.
Though I have had experience filming and directing various independent video projects, it was the Untold London scheme which gave me my first much needed broadcast experience, and has encouraged me to craft my film making skills further. As a result I have had much more confidence applying for other broadcast work.
