Which new emojis could we be using in 2025?

Emojis have become a huge part of life online.
Many of us use the tiny colourful images to help express our emotions, ideas and thoughts, and to react to the things people say and do.
They've become an important way of communicating, and there's even a whole day dedicated to the popular graphics, celebrated on 17 July each year.
There are currently more than 3,700 emojis to choose from and 2025 is set to see another eight brand new images added to the ever-growing collection.

What new emojis could be introduced in 2025?
The eight emojis which could soon be making their debut on our phones and other devices include a paint splatter, a leafless tree, a tired face with bags under its eyes, a harp, a shovel, a human fingerprint, a root vegetable and a flag of Sark, which is a tiny island with less than 600 people, and is part of the Channel Islands.
However, the emojis will first need first be approved by Unicode Consortium, which is a group that decides which new emoji characters should be introduced each year.
If the eight emojis, which are the candidates for what's known as Emoji 16.0, are approved in September, it'll bring the total number of the digital images up to 3,790.
It'll also make Emoji 16.0 the smallest number group of the icons to be approved in history. The next lowest number was in 2022, when 31 emojis were approved as part of Emoji 15.0.
