The French Post Office has released a bakery-scented postage stamp to celebrate the baguette.

Nearly 600,000 scratch-and-sniff stamps have gone on sale in France, with each stamp costing €1.96.

The stamps were launched on Thursday, which was the day of Saint-Honoré, the patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs, and went on sale on Friday morning.

The ink on the stamp contains microcapsules, which make the stamp smell when scratched.

The special stamp is not the first.

In 2018, the US released its first scratch-and-sniff stamp, which was illustrated with ice creams and lollies that smelt of "summer".

The French postal service has also previously released a stamp that smelled and tasted of chocolate.

The chocolate stamp was made in May 2009 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the cocoa bean to the city of Bayonne in France.

Celebratory stamps are often made for special occasions, such as anniversaries.

At the start of the month, Royal Mail released a set of Peppa Pig themed stamps to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary.
