'Famous Composers 2' was missing from the library shelves for quite a while...

A book has finally been returned to a library in Minnesota in the USA.

It wasn't just a little bit overdue, however, it had been out on loan for over 100 years!

The non-fiction book, called Famous Composers, is a guide to musical maestros such as Beethoven and Mozart.

The book was borrowed in 1919, and has only just made its way back to the library.

What's the longest you've ever borrowed something for? Maybe you've borrowed something from a friend for a while and only just remembered? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of the page.

How was the very overdue library book found?

If you look closely, you can see stamps showing when the book was taken out. On the top there's 4 June 1914, and Jan 17, 1916. There are also some interesting scribblings where someone was trying to do some maths on the paper, working out was 1928 minus 1791 was.

A person who uses Saint Paul Public Library in Minnesota discovered a very old book whilst going through some of their mother's belongings.

He realised it had the library's stamp on the front of it, and took it back to its home. Next to the stamp, you could see that the book was last taken out in 1919.

It's very lucky that the book is still around. Just before it was checked out for over 100 years, there was a fire in the library, and lots of books were destroyed. Luckily at the time, someone else was borrowing the book.

The library said they weren't going to make anyone pay a late book fine.
