A new film of Roald Dahl's famous children's book Matilda is to be made by Netflix.

Eleven-year-old Alisha Weir will be playing Matilda in the new movie Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, with James Bond actress Lashana Lynch as kind-hearted teacher Miss Honey.

Emma Thompson, best known for playing the magical Nanny McPhee, will be the terrifying headteacher Miss Trunchbull.

A new trailer has dropped, so let's check-in on what we know so far.

The story follows a girl called Matilda who loves to read and is very intelligent, but doesn't fit in with the rest of her family.

She discovers she can move things with her mind, and uses her powers to help protect her teacher and friends from school head, Miss Trunchbull, who abuses her power to push the kids around.

How will this film be different?

This film won't be the same as the previous movie that came out back in 1996.

However, the trailer shows us the inside of the school and Matilda and her friends facing off against the dreaded Trunchbull - which looks pretty familiar!

We also see some classic scenes such as the chocolate-cake incident and the swinging - and throwing - of the child in the playground!

This version is instead based on the Matilda the Musical stage show, which was originally staged in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

It is known for songs including When I Grow Up and a Little Bit Naughty, composed by Australian comedian Tim Minchin.

The show moved to the West End in 2011, and won seven Olivier Awards, which is one of the top prizes in the theatre world.
