Gold medal-winning heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill has announced that she is retiring from athletics. She is the current world heptathlete champion with two Olympic medals to her name and has inspired a whole generation of athletes. So, we decided to take a look back at some of her top moments...

Jess grew up in Sheffield, in England, and first got into athletics when she was at school. She took home her first official medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, in Australia in 2006. Jess won a bronze medal for England in the heptathlon, achieving a personal best in the high jump, the 200 metres and the javelin.

After taking some time off in 2008 for an injury, Jess Ennis came back to win her first ever gold medal at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, in Germany.

Jess won her first Olympic gold medal on home turf at the London 2012 Olympics with a whopping score of 6,955 points at the end of her event. Her epic performance earned her a golden postbox with her name on it, her own stamp, and even got a CBE special award from the Queen for her contribution to athletics.

Jessica became Ennis-Hill when she married her long-term boyfriend Andy Hill in 2013. She gave birth to a little boy called Reggie in 2014, and took some time away from athletics to take care of him.

Earlier this year Jess took home an incredible silver medal for team GB in the heptathlon. After she made the announcement that she was retiring Jess said it was: "one of the toughest decisions I've had to make" and that she: "wanted to leave on a high and have no regrets".
