Jersey Water prices increase by about 2%

Water tariffs will increase by about 2% from April, Jersey Water has announced.

The company said the standing charge of 拢20 would also rise to between 拢20.52 and 拢125.05, with prices dependent on the size of customers' meters.

Finance Director Helier Smith said the tiered charge was being brought in as larger connections put more pressure on the mains network.

He said the company had kept its tariff increases at or below the rate of inflation for the 11 years in a row.

Mr Smith said the company had reached the halfway point in a programme of installing meters on all connections to the mains water network by 2016.

He said: "[Last year] Jersey Water installed 3,716 meters... bringing the proportion of metered connections to approximately 65%.

"In 2013 the company will focus its metering programme on areas in St Clement, Grouville and parts of St Helier."
