Jersey's civil servants have rejected the States' pay offer of two 1% lump sums and a 1% rise.

The States Employment Board's plans were accepted by 315 of those who voted at a meeting of the civil service joint council on Wednesday night.

However, 322 rejected the proposed offer for the period 2012 to 2014.

Earlier this month, a proposal by Deputy Geoff Southern to increase the budget for public sector pay was voted down in the States by 41 votes to five.

A spokesperson for the council said it would be looking to arrange "further meetings with the employer".

Jersey's Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst - along with four other politicians - make up the States board to oversee civil servants' pay and conditions.

The board's offer applies to all public sector workers.

This has already prompted States-employed nurses to threaten to strike in January if further negotiations do not see an improvement to the offer.
