Islanders sought for Jersey teaching course

  • Published

Islanders who want to be secondary school teachers are being sought to train in Jersey.

The education department said it was difficult to recruit residentially qualified teachers.

The Jersey graduate training programme is a one year course run by the education sport and culture department.

The department said it was created to cater for Jersey residents interested in the profession who could not go to a UK university to retrain.

Potential teachers for all subjects will be considered but priority will be given to maths, English and science.

There is an information evening for graduates at 18:00 GMT on Wednesday 25 January at the Highlands College Restaurant.

Applications are being accepted for the course which starts in September.

Since the programme started in 2005, 25 teachers have completed the course and are working in Jersey secondary schools.
