Census information leaflets are being delivered to households in Jersey this weekend.

A team of 166 enumerators will be delivering the leaflets and making sure every residential address in Jersey is included in the census.

The leaflets are being delivered ahead of census day on Sunday 27 March.

It is a legal requirement to take part in the census, and there is a penalty fine of up to £1,000 for not completing it.

Dr Duncan Gibaut, head of the States of Jersey Statistics Unit, said: "There is no need for the public to feel anxious about any aspect of the census; the leaflet explains the importance and confidentiality of the data collected and details where the public can get further information."

It is important to take part in the census as it is used to plan services that affect everyone, from schools to health and transport, the States says.

Households can expect to receive their census questionnaire sometime during the two weeks leading up to 27 March, and they will then need to return them by post after that day.
