A section of cycle track will be created on Jersey's east coast.

Planning authorities have given permission for drainage work and resurfacing of an existing path next to Grouville common.

The decision by the States of Jersey to back a new transport policy meant the plans for an eastern cycle track could go ahead.

Eventually it is hoped the cycle track will extend all the way to the east from the centre of town.

The planning applications panel has now given approval for the existing track by the side of Grouville common to be improved.

The track will be given new drainage and surfacing to make it suitable for cycling.

The chairman, Constable John Gallichan, said some trees will be lost because of the work.

They are said to be either very young saplings or dead, having been killed by Dutch Elm disease.
