A 17-year-old girl on a Duke of Edinburgh Awards trek has been safely brought off hills in Snowdonia after suffering exhaustion.

The Aberglaslyn mountain rescue team was called to the Nant Gwynant area at about 21:30 BST on Thursday after reports a walker was in difficulty.

She was part of a group of seven who had been undertaking an expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh gold award.

The teenager was treated for dehydration after being located.

It followed a search for the party north of Moel Meirch, assisted by a Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley.

The group were taken off the mountainside by the helicopter, before the exhausted walker was handed over to the care of group leaders.

The mountain rescue team finally stood down from the operation at 01:12 on Friday.
