Woman, 89, dies and another critical in separate crashes

An 89-year-old woman has died and a 74-year-old woman is critical after separate crashes on Scotland's roads.

The 89-year-old was driving a Hyundai I10 that crashed on the A6094 in East Lothian at about 16:50 on Friday. She died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The 74-year-old is in a critical condition at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, after a three-car crash at about 16:40 on the A96.

In East Lothian, emergency services attended the one-car crash on the A6094 between Wallyford and Whitecraig.

The road was closed for six hours and re-opened at about 23:00.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died.

"Our inquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicle prior to the crash to contact us."

In the Highlands the three-vehicle also crash happened on Friday, near the village of Auldearn.

A black BMW Estate, a red Toyota Yaris and a green Toyota Hilux towing a trailer were involved.

A 74-year-old man and two women, aged 51 and 74, from the Toyota Yaris were taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.

The man and 51-year-old woman are reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

Meanwhile, officers are also appealing for information after a 39-year-old man was hit by a car in Aberdeen in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident happened about 02:10 in the Alford Place area and involved a silver Toyota Corolla.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment. The driver of the car was not injured.
