Emergency crews have been called to recover two 4x4 vehicles found in a river near Edinburgh Airport.

The cars were found just off Turnhouse Road in Edinburgh at about 07:45.

A member of the public raised the alarm with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service about what they thought could be a 4x4 in the River Almond.

Crews used two water rescue support vehicles and four pumps during the recovery. The cars have not been reported as stolen.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Crews carried out a search of two vehicles in the water and the surrounding area.

"There are no casualties."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh were called to the Lennymuir area around 07:45 on Wednesday 2 August following a report that a Chrysler Jeep had been found abandoned.

"Shortly afterwards, further reports were received of two 4x4s partly submerged in the River Almond in the Turnhouse Road area.

"Following a multi-agency response, no one was found within the vehicles and none of the cars have been reported as stolen.

"Inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing.

"Anyone who may have information which can help is urged to contact Police Scotland."
