The racial abuse of a Sunderland footballer on Twitter is being investigated by police.
Fraizer Campbell was sent a message, from an account which no longer exists, after he made a comment in support of Estonia ahead of a Euro 2012 play-off.
The 24-year-old striker, formerly of Manchester United, described the tweet as "disgraceful".
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "We are aware of the matter and inquiries are being made into it."
The message was retweeted by Mr Campbell, who said: "Wow just seen this tweet! Disgraceful."
He also linked to a picture of the Show Racism the Red Card organisation's logo.
Police are investigating a similar incident involving Newcastle United's Sammy Ameobi and have arrested two teenagers, who were later released on bail.
