A paramedic has been injured in a claw hammer attack while attending a call-out in Ipswich.

Police said a 37-year-old East of England Ambulance Service worker suffered puncture wounds to a hand.

The incident happened at a property in Roundwood Road, off Woodbridge Road, at about 14:45 GMT on Monday.

Patricia Gosling, 54, of Roundwood Road, has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear before magistrates.

The service said its paramedic was in a solo-staffed ambulance and a EEAS manager arrived in a car about 20 minutes later.

The paramedic has since had surgery on her hand at Norfolk & Norwich Hospital.
