South Yorkshire Police re-advertise chief constable job

  • Published

Only two people applied for the position of Chief Constable for South Yorkshire Police when the role was advertised earlier this year, it has been revealed.

The South Yorkshire Police Authority [SYPA] has said it will re-advertise the post.

Med Hughes, who joined as chief constable in 2004, will step down on Friday after seven years in the role.

Deputy Chief Constable Bob Dyson will be act-up until successor is appointed.

A spokesperson for SYPA said in a statement: "Re-advertising will mean we will now interview at the end of November so this will only delay the process by four weeks.

"This will not incur any additional costs as we will only need to re-advertise on the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) website."
