A "dangerous" killer who had absconded from prison has been arrested.

Anthony Curry, 43, formerly of Dyson Street, Blackburn, was jailed for 12 years in 2013 after he admitted killing his 88-year-old friend.

Lancashire Police said he left HMP Kirkham on Wednesday afternoon but was arrested in Preston on Thursday.

A Prison Service spokesman said all absconders were "returned to much tougher, closed prisons where they will have to serve additional time".

Curry had been described by police as "clearly a dangerous individual" who should not be approached.

His victim Christopher Proctor was found dead at his home after a fire in Pleckgate Road, Blackburn, in November 2012.

In 2013, the 43-year-old pleaded guilty to his manslaughter, as well as arson, burglary and attempted theft.

HMP Kirkham, a category D open prison near Preston, houses up to 657 male prisoners.
