Residents were told to keep their windows closed after a fire broke out at an industrial building.
Emergency services were called to the workshop, near the A596 in Wigton, Cumbria, at 21:30 BST on Monday.
It took crews and six fire engines from Wigton, Silloth, Aspatria, Carlisle and Cockermouth about five hours and 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
The road was cordoned off but has since reopened.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We would like to thank those who were impacted by the road closures put in place for their patience and cooperation."
