Mayor George Ferguson backs Bristol care home closures

Bristol's elected mayor is backing plans to close some of the city's care homes and day care centres.
On the recommendation of a cross-party panel, George Ferguson has decided to continue plans started by the previous Liberal Democrat administration.
It means eight out of the 11 council-run centres in the city will now shut.
Mr Ferguson will also continue with plans to close seven day care centres over the next three years and replace them with three community hubs.
Of the 11 council-run care homes, only Redfield Lodge, Brentry House in Brentry and Greville in Stockwood will stay open.
The mayor has backed one change to the original plan and wants to open one further home for residents with dementia.
