    Alderney Airport's main runway was closed earlier after a light aircraft suffered a tyre failure before take off.

    A spokesman for the airport said: “The closure was necessary to get the aircraft back to the apron safely.

    "The other two grass runways remained open throughout the incident.

    "There were no injuries to the people on board the aircraft.

    "The main runway was declared open at 15:44.

    "Due to the ongoing delays to passenger flights – the airport will also remain open late if required to clear any backlog."

    A "large quantity of alcohol" was taken in a burglary at a party entertainment centre in Guernsey, police have said.

    It happened between 00:45 and 02:00 on Tuesday 16 July at Oaty and Joey's Playbarn at Oatlands Village.

    Guernsey's harbourmaster has praised a local rib company for providing water taxis to boat owners whilst a bridge was being repaired.

    Island Rib Voyages has been taking islanders to their boats for the past few days, after strong winds on Tuesday damaged the walk-ashore bridge, which links the swan pool pontoons and the crown pier.

    Cptn David Barker said it has meant maintenance staff could concentrate on fixing the bridge.

    We were very grateful to them. They stepped in at very short notice and made sure folks could still get backwards and forwards to the visiting yacht pontoons. Meanwhile, the maintenance staff here cracked on with providing a new pontoon and mending what had been broken.

    Scientists from a Jersey campaign group are taking samples of island shellfish to see if the sea water is becoming more polluted.

    Save Our Shoreline is concerned the amount of chemicals and other contaminants in the sea may have increased in the last 10 years due to new coastal developments.

    Jacqui Carrel, who is an environmental scientist, says they need the evidence before they can look at trying to protect the shellfish.
