An army officer who was stabbed multiple times near barracks in Kent has thanked the 鈥渙verwhelming鈥 generosity of strangers who have donated towards his recovery.

Almost 拢50,000 has been raised to support Lt Col Mark Teeton and his family after he was hospitalised following the alleged knife attack in Sally Port Gardens, near Brompton Barracks, in July.

Mr Teeton said: 鈥淲e took strength and comfort from all the messages when we had just been through the most horrific experience.

"Our family cannot thank those people enough.鈥

Col Teeton, who is in his 40s, also thanked GB News presenter Darren Grimes, who set up the fundraiser.

The army officer was discharged from hospital in August.

Anthony Esan, 24, has been charged with attempted murder and a trial has been set for 20 January.

The trail is expected to last three weeks.
