Prison officer arrested over 'inmate relationship'

A female prison officer was arrested following allegations she had an "inappropriate relationship" with an inmate.

The HMP Highpoint worker was held on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.

The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) - which is made up of staff from in the East of England - said it was made aware of the allegation on 8 July.

The woman has been bailed while inquiries continue.

The prison is one of England's largest category C facilities and holds inmates.

An ERSOU spokesperson said: "Our Prison Intelligence Unit was on Monday (8 July) made aware of an alleged inappropriate relationship between a prison officer and inmate at HMP Highpoint in Suffolk.

"A woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was taken to police custody to be questioned.

"She was later bailed, and enquiries are ongoing."
