Two people were taken to hospital after a pub caught fire overnight.

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to the Rising Sun Pub in Leverington, near Wisbech, at 01:38 GMT on Thursday.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze after more than three hours and said the cause of the fire was accidental.

A pair who suffered smoke inhalation were taken to hospital for a precautionary check, the brigade said.

Anglian Water staff also attended the scene in Dowgate Road after a water main was damaged by the fire.

Residents were experiencing low water pressure as a result, it was reported.

The fire started on the first floor of the pub and spread to the roof, a Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman, said.

"Firefighters tackled the fire using four hose reels and an aerial appliance and the fire was out by 4.45am," she added.

Crews left the scene by 05:25 GMT.
