Work to fix uneven pavements set to start

A scheme to improve and repair pavements along a major Leicester road is set to begin.
Leicester City Council will start work to replace the existing uneven pavement on a stretch of Melton Road in Belgrave on Sunday.
New block paving will make up the new pathway, with the existing tree pits covered with a porous resin-bound material to help improve drainage.
The work, which will cost around 拢250,000, is being funded through the city council鈥檚 annual highways maintenance programme.
Council officers said temporary closures between Ascot Road and Checketts Road could be needed, with traffic lights used to control vehicles.
The work is the first phase of a planned programme of investment to improve several sections of footway along Melton Road in coming years, subject to funding.
City mayor, Peter Soulsby, said: 鈥淭his first phase of investment in repairing and replacing broken and uneven pavements on part of Melton Road will help improve the look and feel of area and make it more attractive for residents and shoppers.
鈥淧rojects like this are an important part of ensuring that our neighbourhood shopping streets and busy routes into the city stay looking their best.鈥
The work is expected to be completed in December.
