A father-of-three who police believe was fatally attacked in his own home has been described by his mother as a "loving and caring" person who "would do anything for anyone".

Rob Kerr died in hospital on Tuesday, more than two weeks after detectives think the 42-year-old was assaulted in Coronation Street, Blackpool.

His mother's tribute came as a fifth man - a 22-year-old from Blackpool - was arrested on suspicion of Mr Kerr's murder.

Lancashire Police said three other men - aged 21, 29 and 40 - had been bailed pending further enquiries, while a 27-year-old had been released without charge.

Police were informed when Mr Kerr arrived at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on 7 September with serious injuries consistent with assault.

His mother, whose name has not been released, said: “Rob was my youngest son out of five siblings. He has two older brothers and younger sisters.

"He was such a protective person, especially over me and his three children – two of them are now adults but his youngest is still a child. He loved each of them a lot."

She added: "My son did not deserve any of this. We are left heartbroken."

Det Chief Insp John McNamara said "enquiries are very much ongoing" and joined the victim's mother in appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
