The annual Inter-Island Environment Meeting (IIEM) is due to take place over the next two days in Alderney.

The event has a special focus on responding to environmental emergencies as a result of climate change this year, the States of Alderney said.

The two-day conference marks the sixth time Alderney has hosted the IIEM, with delegates attending from across the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight and the UK.

Founded in 2000, the IIEM brings together island governments, charities, businesses and individuals working in the environmental sector annually.

The States said this year's talks would also have a focus on how to respond to the increasing number of environmental emergencies, which it said was especially poignant given the impact of avian influenza this year and the "continued battle" with invasive species such as Asian hornets.

More than 90 delegates are due to take part, with about 40 expected to attend in person, according to the States.
