Trustee admits defrauding charity out of 拢230k

A trustee of an animal rescue charity has pleaded guilty to defrauding it of 拢230,000.
Kevin Proctor, 61, of Hall Close in the Worsbrough area of Barnsley, was the treasurer at Barnsley Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) during a six-year period between August 2016 and August 2022.
Mr Proctor entered a guilty plea to the charge of fraud by abuse of position on 26 July at Sheffield Crown Court.
He was bailed ahead of a sentencing hearing on 4 October.
BARC, which is based at Hoyland Road in Hoyland Common, is one of Yorkshire鈥檚 largest animal rescue charities and was started in 1995 and looks after dogs, cats, and rabbits.
Proctor, had previously received remuneration as part of his charity work while also committing the fraud, .
In a statement, the BARC's committee said: 鈥淭his has been a difficult and disappointing time for our charity and was reported immediately to The Charity Commission and the Barnsley C.I.D who have dealt with this matter on our behalf.鈥
The court ordered a pre-sentencing report to be prepared ahead of the sentencing.
