Crash involving overturned vehicle closes A1

A crash which involved a vehicle which overturned has left the northbound carriageway of the A1 shut.
The crash happened on the northbound carriageway near junction 40 for Darrington near Pontefract, West Yorkshire Police said.
All emergency services, including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, were in attendance along with traffic officers, National Highways said.
The northbound carriageway was expected to be shut into the night.
Diversion routes were in place.
"Due to the nature of the incident, the road is expected to be closed for some time," National Highways said.
The road was initially closed in both directions, but police said the southbound carriageway had since reopened.
