A woman arrested over the death of a South Yorkshire pensioner eight years ago has been bailed.

Tommy Ward, 80, died in February 2016 from injuries he suffered when he was attacked at his home on Salisbury Road in Maltby on 1 October 2015.

A safety deposit box containing 拢30,000 in cash was reportedly taken during the incident.

South Yorkshire Police had arrested a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of murder, and she has now been bailed pending further inquiries.

'Life ended in tragedy'

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses in their efforts to solve the case.

Besides the 36-year-old woman, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the incident since 2016, though they were all released with no further action.

Det Insp Matt Bolger said: 鈥淭ommy Ward was a vulnerable 80-year-old man who lived alone, and his life ended in tragedy. Today I am appealing to members of the local community who may hold vital information relating to this awful incident.

鈥淎t the time you may have felt frightened about contacting the police, but I would urge you to come forward now.

"We remain steadfastly determined to get answers for Tommy and his family, and this investigation will continue until we have secured justice."
