A Bradford man who burgled an occupied house before leading police on a 100mph car chase last month has been jailed.

Raheel Khan, who committed the offence on his 22nd birthday, arrived at the West Yorkshire property at 05:00 BST armed with tools before stealing the keys to two cars parked outside.

A nine-minute police chase began in wet conditions before officers deployed a stinger device to deflate the cars' tyres, Bradford Crown Court also heard.

Khan, of Welbury Drive, Bradford, was convicted of charges of burglary, dangerous driving, theft of motor vehicles and driving without insurance.

Raheel Khan has been jailed for more than three years

He was sentenced on Tuesday to three years for the burglary with an additional 10 months for dangerous driving.

Khan was with two others when he broke into the home on Halifax Road in Todmorden on 17 March and also turned up with false number plates and a balaclava.

The three-car convoy in the high-speed chase were the gang鈥檚 VW Polo and a stolen VW Golf and a VW Sirocco, the court heard.

Prosecutor Andrew Horton said the cars also ran two red lights during the pursuit and that the VW Polo stopped, but Khan continued to drive on in the VW Golf before it was dumped and he was arrested nearby.

'Significant degree of planning'

The man whose home was burgled said in his statement he "worked hard" and it was 鈥渄isgusting鈥 people could think they could break in and steal his property.

Passing sentence, Recorder Simon Kealey KC said the stolen cars had been of high value and the householder had been asleep at the time.

鈥淚n my judgement there was a significant degree of planning and organisation in this case,鈥 the judge told Khan.

Khan was also banned from driving for 35 months and must also take an extended re-test.
