Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was struck by a car and seriously injured.
Essex Police stopped two cars travelling in convoy in Manorway, Stanford-le-Hope, at about 02:00 BST on Wednesday.
An officer was talking to the occupants of one of the vehicles before they got back into the car and drove away, crashing into the officer.
A third man was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed, and possession of a Class A drug.
All three arrested men are in their 30s and remain in custody.
The officer was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury and has since been discharged.
Supt Timothy Tubbs said: 鈥淢y thoughts are with our injured colleague.
鈥淚 want to praise the professionalism of the officers who responded to this incident.
鈥淚t is never easy when you see one of your colleagues hurt but this didn鈥檛 prevent them ensuring we brought suspects into custody鈥.
