Police in a Devon seaside town are warning people not to "take risks" this summer ahead of a number of big events.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers in Sidmouth were preparing for a busy few months that included the Sea Fest music event on Saturday and the week-long Folk Festival in August.

The force said it expected a large number of visitors to descend on the town.

PC Tom Driver, Sidmouth neighbourhood beat manager, said "please don鈥檛 take risks at the coast, take advice from our RNLI and HM Coastguard UK colleagues and... please don鈥檛 leave animals in hot cars".

He said: "We advise people to allow extra time for travelling in case of traffic or parking issues and make sure they have their phone fully charged, keep an eye on young children and arrange a meeting point in case they are separated from friends or family."
