Man to stand trial over pedestrian death

A man is due to go on trial later this year charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a car mounted a pavement and struck a pedestrian.

Carlton Betts, 27, pleaded not guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday.

The charge relates to the death of Darren Whitehouse who was killed on St Marks Road in Tipton, on 27 February 2021.

Mr Betts has been released on court bail and is due to next appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court for a trial set to start on 16 December.

In a statement released shortly after his death, Mr Whitehouse鈥檚 family said they were devastated at the sudden loss.

"We are so grateful for the support that the local community have shown to our family, thank you," they said.
