Busy bypass sees weekend closures for upgrade work

Part of a major road in Bradford will be closed over the next two weekends to allow for essential bridge maintenance work to take place.
The Cottingley Viaduct section of the A650 Fred Hoyle Way, commonly known as the Bingley bypass, will be shut in the northbound direction this weekend, before the southbound carriageway is closed the following weekend.
The project would prolong the working life of the structure, which runs above the River Aire, and ensure it remained safe, Bradford Council said.
Signed diversion routes will be in place during the works.
The northbound carriageway will be closed from the Bradford Road roundabout at Cottingley to Ferncliffe Road in Bingley from 20:00 BST on Friday to 06:00 on Monday.
Because the work will require the temporary removal of the safety barrier in the central reservation, the right-hand lane of the southbound carriageway will also be closed during this time.
The following weekend, the southbound carriageway will be shut from 20:00 BST on 7 June until 06:00 BST on 10 June, with the right-hand lane of the northbound carriageway also closed.
While the road is shut, other maintenance work will also be carried out by the council.
