Power cut hits thousands of island properties

About 26,000 properties in Skye and the Western Isles have been affected by a power cut, SSEN Transmission has said.
Supplies went out at about 05:00 and the company said the vast majority of its customers were reconnected by 10:00.
Power was later restored to about 1,200 customers in Skye's Dunvegan area.
SSEN Transmission said a fault occurred on the transmission network affecting the 100 mile-long Fort Augustus to Skye 132kV overhead line.
A spokesperson: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
"Teams from SSEN Transmission continue to investigate the cause of the fault before safely carrying out any repairs and restore the network to normal operations."
