Plans for special school at former police station
- Published
A school for children with medical or mental health needs has been proposed for a former police station in Hull.
Gordon Street Police Station was sold in February to Venn Academy Trust for £350,000.
The trust has now applied to Hull City Council to turn the building into a special school for about 35 children.
No major external or internal alterations are proposed to the building.
Twenty staff members would work alongside the children between 0800 and 1600. Inside, there would be classrooms, break-out rooms, therapy rooms, offices and meeting rooms, and possibly sensory rooms, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The building had previously been vacant since 2018 and the police said it had become a target for anti-social behaviour.
The police and crime commissioner (PCC) for Humberside, Jonathan Evison, had previously said the offer from the academy was "the most viable" because of its presence in the local community.
