A teenager is set to stand trial over the killing of a woman outside a pub in Edinburgh.

The 17-year-old is accused of stabbing Danielle Davidson in the face and body near the Foot of the Walk bar on Constitution Street in Leith on 18 May last year.

The boy faces a separate charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by trying to 鈥渁lter his appearance鈥 in a supermarket toilet cublice following the killing.

He pled not guilty via his legal team at an initial hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Ms Davidson, 33, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but died as a result of her injuries a short time later.

The teenager, who cannot be named, is alleged to have been wearing a mask and shouted threats at Ms Davidson before carrying out the attack.

He is then accused of going into a toilet cubicle in a Tesco store on nearby Duke Street with 鈥渁 view to altering" his appearance.

Other accusations he faces include charges that he had a knife "without lawful authority" on the date of the alleged killing and the following day in the Saughton Road area of the city.

Lord Arthurson set a trial scheduled to begin in October this year.
