The discovery of bones by workers digging up ground outside a church has prompted a police investigation.

They were found next to St Mary's Church in Maidenhead on Monday while engineers were attempting to fix power outages at the site.

The church, on St Mary's Close, said its building remained open and was supporting officers with their inquiries.

Thames Valley Police said: "We are working to find out if they are human or animal remains but there is nothing to suggest criminality at this time."
